Born into a musical family, he began to learn violin at the age of five. His childhood dream was to become a world-class violinist. After years of hard practice, Oscar reached performance level 10 on violin at the Central Conservatory of Music of China when he was 14. Later, due to his parents’ career decision, Oscar immigrated to Canada with his family and was admitted to the Royal Conservatory of Music of Canada with excellent scores.

Coincidentally, Oscar was introduced to the interior design and construction industry, and his design concepts and creative ideas impressed the project owners at that time. With his first project off the ground, Oscar started wondering if he could do something in a field that is not music-related.

“From the very first day of spatial design, a lot of my inspiration and ideas have been coming from music. I visualize the notes in my head and place the images I see in a fixed space. Color, line, lighting, wall… One by one, it was a lot of fun, and it was that constant creativity that started my love for this business.”

Oscar has been specializing in design and construction for 12 years. In 2013, he founded JY Construction, which became the first “one-stop-shop” Chinese commercial construction company in Toronto that integrated interior and exterior design, bottom-up construction and soft renovation. As the JYC team expands, it has taken on clients from a wide variety of industries and has gained a reputation for the quality of its comprehensive services.

In recent years, Oscar has been focusing more on commercial restaurants, retail stores and entertainment spaces. JY Construction has provided its services to a number of well-known restaurants. His and JYC’s mission is to help Chinese enterprises gaining a sustainable profit while staying true to their brand culture.
